Practicals
Burials. The Meadow supports natural (green) burial practices. Instead of harmful chemicals, concrete vaults, and non-biodegradable materials, burials involve earthen graves, cloth shrouds, simple wood boxes, or cremated remains. The type of burial and provision of natural materials are determined by the client. Loved ones may take part in the actual interment if they wish.
Many people find consolation and connection in these simple, Earth-honoring practices.
Services. The Meadow provides site preparation, coordination, and actual burial (with or without a gathering for committal). Our services also include care of the cemetery in perpetuity.
Pricing. Rates vary by the services requested, but are set and do not change once you secure a site, so we encourage advanced planning. In addition to financial considerations, planning ahead can relieve loved ones from making difficult decisions while grieving. It will also ensure that your wishes are honored when the time comes. Visit
In addition to being a natural burial ground, The Meadow is a peaceful green space that is open to the community year-round, dawn to dusk, for meandering, reflection, and restoration. Note: From time to time we may post notice of a workshop, event or program to be held at The Meadow.

A Natural Burial Ground
Caring for the Earth and one another, The Meadow at Boxerwood offers natural burial services that
-
honor and promote natural life cycles,
-
enhance and preserve the land as habitat for native flora and fauna, and
-
model the merits and methods of natural end-of-life processes.
These services, and the perpetual care of the 5-acre burial preserve, are provided by Boxerwood Education Association (BEA), a not-for-profit environmental education organization located just outside Lexington, Virginia.

The Boxerwood Mission:
to educate and inspire people of all ages to become environmentally responsible stewards of the Earth.
